Facial care, skin care, and types of soap to use
Dermatologists recommend washing the face with soap twice daily, the body once daily - and the hands as often as necessary to keep them sanitary. How do you know which soap is right for you? Soap used to have a bad reputation because of the inclusion of harsh detergents, which stripped oil from the skin. However, that is no longer the case with all soaps anymore.
Before we discuss what skincare routine to follow, you need to know your skin type.
To do so, look at your face in a mirror in natural daylight (i.e., outside or near a window)
and observe the various areas of your face.
In general:
Oily skin is shiny, especially around the forehead, nose and chin areas, where oil glands are most prevalent
and tends to break out with pimples.
If you have large pores, these may also indicate oiliness.
Dry skin feels tight and dehydrated and pores may be very fine.
It may also look flaky, and have a rough, papery texture.
Normal skin has a uniform texture and tone, and only occasionally break out in spots.
Combination skin has both oily and dry patches:
It may be shiny/blemished around the forehead, nose and chin areas, and scaly around the cheeks.
Once you have determined your skin type, you can use this information to work out your own specific skincare needs.
If your skin is oily and/or acne-prone, select soaps that contain salicylic acid --
a skin-sloughing beta hydroxy acid that keeps pores unclogged.
Similarly, choose products with the pimple-drying ingredient benzoyl peroxide.
For dry skin, stick with gentle, super-fatted soaps, many of which contain up to one-third moisturizers.
Pure glycerin soap will also help your skin retain moisture.
However, avoid deodorant soaps, which can dry your skin even further.
Those with sensitive skin should opt for hypoallergenic soaps, and avoid perfumed,
antibacterial and deodorant soaps, which can be irritating.
Try to use very little soap, do not scrub too hard, and make sure to rinse well with cool water
(warm or hot water can be drying).
People with normal skin have plenty of options:
feed your skin with plant-based soaps, lather up with triple-milled soaps or use a gentle face bar soap that is
non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores).
Those suffering from windburn, sunburn or chapped skin can calm it with soap rich in soothing glycerin and aloe vera.
As much as possible, avoid bars with overpowering fragrances since they can irritate the skin further.
Even when you're partying until the wee hours of the morning or working overtime at the office,
it is essential to cleanse your face thoroughly before you hit the sack.
Ideally, you should wash your face twice a day, put on toner, and moisturize immediately after cleansing your face.
By removing makeup and daily grime from your face daily, you can avoid clogged pores and breakouts.
However, we don’t live in a perfect world and there will be times when you just want to slip into bed and forget
about your beauty ritual.
When you’re too tired or there isn’t that much time to conduct your full facial regimen,
you can save time and effort by using a multipurpose cleanser that'll remove dirt, oil,
and even hard-to-remove makeup like waterproof mascara all at once.
You can also try using disposable cloths that you simply moisten (to activate the built-in cleanser)
and smooth over your face to lift away the day's dirt.
There are plenty of ways to protect and beautify your face,
and establishing a regular beauty regimen is one of them.
Start one today and your skin will thank you for it.

Jason Shankey Mail Order Body Care & Cosmetics He Shi Express Liquid Tan What is He-Shi and how does it work? He-Shi is an express liquid tan, which tans on contact with the skin. Unlike most fake tans there is no waiting time for development and because you can actually see it going on, you know instantly that no parts have been left uncovered. The result is no streaking and no white bits. Do I need to moisturise first? This tan contains a penetrating emollient, which works with the skins own melanin. Moisturiser can act as a barrier to the plant extract that interacts with the body's amino acids, therefore it is best not to moisturise first. Also bear in mind any waxing or shaving should be carried out 24 hours before applying the tan. Will it get darker? It will look slightly darker overnight, however if a deeper colour is required, just apply a further coat. This can be done immediately after the first coat has dried out, or the next day. When can I wash? It is best to leave a minimum of 5 to 7 hours before showering, but overnight is best. Some surface bronzer will wash off on the first shower. After this He-Shi will not wash off. How long will it last? It fades naturally like a real tan and will last approximately 4/5 days. It is a sunscreen? No. You should take normal precautions during exposure to the natural sun. Will perfumes, sunscreen lotions etc. affect He-Shi? No, once it has been fully absorbed, you can follow your normal routine. Can pregnant women use He-Shi? Yes, it is non-toxic and it does not smell foul or have any nausea inducing fragrances. It also covers patchiness in the skin, which sometimes develops during pregnancy. He-Shi is also popular with men and has no sex boundaries. How do I apply He-Shi? You can apply with a make up sponge or cotton wool using a rubber glove to protect the hands from staining, however we recommend a Velvotan Applicator which is a glove mitt. These glove mitts are available in 2 sizes, small one for the face and a larger mitt for the body. They provide extremely smooth and easy application and are also machine washable for repeated use. What about problem areas? Use lightly over knees, elbows, back of heels, i.e. dry areas of skin as these retain more of the moisturise and appear darker. Does it stain clothes? No. It can rub off on clothes immediately after application, but this will not happen after the first shower. It is best therefore to wear loose dark clothing immediately after application. The good news is that it will wash off clothes. How soon can I dress after application? He-Shi will dry in 5 minutes so you can dress immediately. No more need to wait around naked for 20/30 minutes. He-Shi has also been used successfully to aid in camouflaging freckles, burn scars, blemishes, spider veins, stretch marks and many skin conditions such as Acne, Rosacea and Eczema. Key words: fake tan, false tan, skin care, skin cream, skin creme, tanning, self tan. Price: £20
